The project of TOBB University of Economics and Technology Department of Architecture students named 'Wooden Centipede', has been entitled to apply for the 'Guinness World Records' book. The work was exhibited within the scope of architectural events under the sponsorship of Yıldız Entegre at Arch+Dsgn Summit 2018.

Yıldız Entegre was one of the sponsors of Arch+Dsgn Summit 2018, an architecture and design summit organized by the Architectural Event Center at Lütfi Kırdar Convention and Exhibition Center on 6-7 April. Bringing together architects, interior designers, designers and creative industry professionals, this architectural event
welcomed its visitors this year with panels, B2B (business to business) meetings, workshops and a surprise exhibition. In the summit organized with the theme of "New Approaches in Architecture and Design", the speakers contribued to new perspectives for the audience during the panels titled "Transdisciplinary Approaches in Spatial Design", "What Do Architects Say+? The Position of the Student in Architecture", "Sustainable Building Environments" and "Innovative Approaches in the Design of Healthcare Buildings".

The surprise of this year's event was the 100x175x150 centimeter "Wooden Centipede" exhibited under the sponsorship of Yıldız Entegre. The project was made by TOBB University of Economics and Technology Department of Architecture freshman students and includes alternative approaches to traditional forms that repeat themselves. In the project that uses wood as a common construction material, the dimensions are approximately 300 times the normal size. Due to the size and structural features of the centipede, it was entitled to apply for the "Guinness World Records" book.

It received huge attention
The work for the "Wooden Centipede" modeling started in January and the project was prepared to comprehend constructive systems which is one of the basic concepts of architecture. 55 students from the Department of Architecture at TOBB University of Economics and Technology worked in groups for months on different segments. More than 7,500 parts were used to build the centipede. It took 12 hours to reinstall the project, which was brought from Ankara to Istanbul. With the opening of Arch+Dsgn Summit 2018, students presented their projects to the visitors. Yıldız Entegre, which continues to support education, sponsored the project prepared by the students within the scope of the Building Technologies course module to be exhibited in the foyer area. The "Wooden Centipede" was created from 22 segments, each differing from each other in terms of design and construction such as thought, material and method. In his presentation titled "A Story Told by an Elephant, Listened by a Giraffe, Learned by Heart by a Centipede", Dr. Murat Sönmez explained the construction processes and the intellectual background of the work.
