This Month's Destination Is Beijing On Social Media 01 September 2019
Chasing the Tree takes its visitors on a rather long journey in September. This month’s destination is Beijing, one of the world’s most crowded cities where the mysticism of Eastern culture can be felt everywhere. China’s capital, Beijing has a population of 21,54 million people, and is among the world’s most crowded cities. Even though it’s a crowded city, Beijing is outstanding in the sense that living standards here are unexpectedly high. But of course, crowded population and high industrialization polluted the air. The quality of air in Beijing ranks among the worst in the world.
Beijing seems determined to reverse the negativity. Among the efforts are projects towards creating a healthier environment and clearing the air. According to a research conducted in 2018, Beijing is home to vegetation and forests that spread across 10,122 square kilometers in total.
Vegetation and trees show a great diversity both throughout Beijing and the country. Dawn Redwood, Dove-Tree, and Du Zhong Tree are China-based. Equally popular is the Empress Tree, a common tree to see in Beijing, used for timber production. The Empress Tree lives up to be 70. In 5 years, it becomes ready to be chopped down partially. Once planted, this tree can be harvested for up to 60-70 years.
The Empress Tree grows rather quickly and produces beautiful flowers and broad, decorative leaves. It has a decent body, produces a lot of oxygen, and is able to prevent erosion. These are among the reason why it’s used almost everywhere in the city including parks, farms, and factory gardens.
There are so many things to do in Beijing. Highlights include the Great Wall of China, known as the world’s longest defensive wall; Forbidden City, one of the largest surviving wooden structures; Temple of Heaven, the center for religious rituals; Summer Palace, the center for all touristic and recreational activities; and Tiananmen Square, the worlds largest square. In addition, there are countless museums, historical sites, parks and gardens, cafés and restaurants spread across the city. Restless crowds, exquisite cuisine, and a touch of history makes Beijing one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
